"It was great to see the students' enthusiasm for entering the world of STEM and give them the chance to see how what they're learning now relates to their future careers."
The Scholars programme aims to build on the passion for STEM subjects developed in the classroom and apply this to advanced activities in a real-world setting. This enhances STEM learning and gets students thinking about the wide range of job roles within these industries. They will also be introduced to the different pathways they can take by meeting industry professionals from diverse backgrounds at different stages of their career.
Our industry partners invite students to apply for their Project Day by submitting a presentation or mini-project, which will be within a specific field of STEM. We particularly welcome applications from those who would in the past have been under-represented in these industries. The successful teams then attend the Project Day and get the opportunity to work with and compete with students from other schools. All of the visits are completely free of charge and fully risk assessed. We even arrange the transport.
As with our other tiers, the programme does not focus on academic ability, but other skills such as teamwork, creativity and communication. The students that best demonstrate these attributes are invited to an awards ceremony and rewarded with an exciting educational experience that will further their knowledge and experience of STEM careers.
